Homelink.

Introduction

A smart home concept that puts every connected device in one interface. I handled the research, product design, and branding from start to finish.

The Brief

Smart home hardware is everywhere, but controlling it still means opening one app for the lights, another for the thermostat, and another for security. I designed Homelink to explore what a single control layer for all of those devices could look like. I built the roadmap around device control, routines, and cross-platform consistency, with milestones that kept the concept focused.

Homelink app: dashboard, device controls, and routines builder

(01)

The Problem.

Context

Every device. A different app.

The hardware usually works well on its own. The frustration starts when several devices have to work together. People constantly switch between apps with different navigation, and even simple cross-device routines can take too much effort to set up.

Customization was another gap. Most apps offer presets or limited controls, so people who want to create scenes, build automations, or fine-tune their space quickly hit a ceiling.

The Solution.

Product Design

One app. Total control.

Homelink brings connected devices into a gesture-based interface that keeps common controls close at hand. I based the navigation on patterns from the research rather than organizing everything by device category or manufacturer.

Customizable dashboards let users surface exactly what they care about, and the smart routines system lets them build cross-device automations without needing to understand any underlying logic. The experience works consistently across mobile, tablet, and voice, all from the same design system.

The Process.

Step 01

Discovery & Definition

I interviewed smart-home users and mapped how they moved between devices, rooms, and routines. The research turned broad complaints about fragmentation into product requirements around speed, predictability, and customization.

Step 02

Strategy & Architecture

I prioritized direct device control and recurring routines, then built the information architecture for a multi-room, multi-category system. The roadmap separated the essential control layer from advanced automation so the concept stayed focused.

Step 03

Prototype & Validate

I built low-fidelity wireframes, then interactive prototypes tested with real users. Feedback drove iterations to navigation, the routines builder, dashboard customization, and the controls people needed to understand at a glance.

Step 04

System & Delivery

I developed the brand and high-fidelity interface around a clear hierarchy and accessible device states. The final concept includes complete priority journeys, responsive screens, and a reusable component library ready for implementation planning.

(04)

The Outcome.

Homelink is a concept, but I developed it through research, architecture, wireframes, prototyping, and high-fidelity visual design. The result is a complete product direction and design system grounded in how people manage their homes today.
